There’s little doubt that using a powered toothbrush is far more effective at keeping teeth clean and white and removing plaque than using a manual toothbrush. However, how do you know which is the best electric toothbrush for your needs? Here are some tips to help you:
Tip No. 1: If you subscribe to Which? Electric Toothbrush X1 Magazine, check their back catalogue online because at some time or other they’re sure to have featured rechargeable toothbrushes. Their thoroughness and range of research is second to none so if you don’t have a subscription, it may well be worth getting one, particularly if you plan on buying other electrical equipment in the near future.
Tip No. 2: Search online using the terms “best electric toothbrush” or “electric toothbrush comparisons” and lots of sites will be listed which have done research and gathered it together for you. If you can find a site which shows comparisons in tabular form, it will be much easier to see which toothbrushes have which features.
Tip No. 3: Visit the website of a toothbrush manufacturer such as Oral-B and check out the table showing the features of every Oral-B electric toothbrush. This site also has a clever little program which enables you to choose which toothbrush features are most important to you and results in recommending the best electric toothbrush which fits with your requirements. The Philips website also has a comparison feature for their Sonicare range of toothbrushes. These two are the leading manufacturers although the Arm & Hammer Spinbrush range is popular but is battery operated rather than being rechargeable.
Tip No. 4: Visit Amazon.com and read the customer reviews. They don’t have a comparison table that I know of so you’ll need to know which toothbrush you’re looking for but there’s nothing like reading the first hand experiences of actual users to help you choose the best electric toothbrush. If price is an issue for you, you can sort by price low to high, although if you search on “electric toothbrushes”, most of the low-priced results either aren’t electric or are toothbrush head replacements, so actually you get better results if you sort by price high to low. You can also choose to only see items by a specific manufacturer.
If you find all the different brands and models confusing and you don’t have any specific dental issues that you need to address then the best electric toothbrush for you is probably a mid-priced model with two or three different cleaning modes, a timer which tells you when it’s time to brush a different quadrant and a battery life indicator.
